FIGUERAS SISSAL (?) Sgrafitto Vase. Any info?
My wife got me this as one of my prezzies last xmas (yet still claims to love me Only joking, I do quite like it) and I'd like to know more about the maker.
I think that it is stamped 'Figueras Sissal', though some of the letters are indistinct, with 'f3' or '73' incised, stands 20.5cm, and judging by the fossilised spider corpses and cobwebs that were in it it has a bit of age. I'm guessing 1960's / '70s Spanish touristware? The colour is a very dark green over a paler green base, it's hand thrown with quite deeply carved sgrafitto decoration. Also, I don't think that it was carved through the dark green, it seems to me that it was carved first and fired with the base colour on, and the dark layer applied afterwards as it isn't 'fixed' and will rub off quite easily (so I suppose that it isn't tecnically sgrafitto).

Very likely Dan, it does have a Mediterranean / Roman look to it.
