I adore this mug, I've had it for years and years but have never been able to decipher the word below the impressed TU.
I think that it is an example of wood-firing and it looks a little like some of the work of the 'Gnarly Dudes', such as this Svend Bayer pot http://ww.studiopottery.com/cgi-bin/pp.cgi?item=3120 but the initials are throwing me. Lots of pics for y'all to admire help identify it for me Surrender

have you tried doing a rubbing with a soft pencil for those bottom letters? or talcing

You are probably right! Kyyrölän Savi in Kyyrölä in the outskirts of Hämeenlinna (Tavastehus in Swedish) is owned by a family Uschanoff. One member of the family is Tiina Uschanoff.

Jeepers! Cheers guys, I'll be dropping them a line later.
I did have a suspicion that it was north/east European. I tried talcing (there's traces of the powder in the pics) and there was a hint of Syrillic about the lettering; I thought I saw a reversed 'N', but if anything the rest was even more indistinct.

I guess you beat me to this one Potty: Honours even. Most Excellent
