Yes there is an obvious similarity, in fact I think there are one or two others doing similar pieces , taking an everyday object like a teapot and tweaking it into sculpture ( none better than Angus Suttie imo ) but Meanley is definitely his own man and someone to look out for .

In this talk, Peter Meanley shares his technical knowledge of salt glazing with his customary generosity. This talk will appeal to ceramics students, craft collectors as well as practicing ceramicists who may want to learn about this technique and how to use it to get the beautiful results it can deliver. Peter is one of the very few ceramicists on the island of Ireland who specialize in salt glazing, with almost 40 years of experience and knowledge.

This salt glazed model of Bill Ismay given the York Centre of Ceramic Art to celebrate the Bill Ismay collection being given to COCA in 2015. Besides being a superb evocation of Bill Ismay, is a lovely example of just how good Peter Meanley's work is. He is a very underestimated potter.
