Studio Pottery Pouring Bowl? Japanese? Marked.
Hi,
Bought this today, I think it may well be a sake pouring bowl, but not sure.
I would guess it is Japanese, but would not be surprised if it was a British potter using a Japanese theme.
It is quite small, just under 2 inches high and 3 3/4 inches at it’s widest point.
It has crazing, but luckily no chips/cracks etc.
Anyone know anything about the maker or origin of this bowl please?
Thanks,
Potty.

Hard to take a nice picture to show how it really looks, because it's the type of shape I think you need to see in person, aka 3D.

Nobody want to take a punt at where it's made?

I have seen this mark before but can't recall who it belongs to

I hadn't commented because I think that you said the same as I would have in your opening post. The shape is definitely that of a Japanese pouring bowl and the decoration ties in. The impressed mark and the foot ring don't look typical of the Japanese pottery that I deal in but that doesn't mean that it isn't Japanese.
My best guess is that it is Japanese or maybe Chinese but if someone said that they recognised the mark as being that of a potter or pottery from elsewhere I wouldn't argue.

Ah so everyone was as un sure as I am
I had considered Chinese, but thought it more likely to be Japanese, partly because of the tone of cobalt blue used.
As to age, again I am un sure, but think it could well be a little older than I first thought.
I really like this one, but hope to be able to find out it's origin.
Thanks both :)
