Re: Signed vase, any idéas out there?
Hi guys!
May be i am completely wrong, but i think it could be made by a famous german potter named Gerhard Liebenthron. He always signed with GL and the year (for example 81 for 1981). He sometimes signed quite illegible so it's not often easy to ID his items. Some of them were clearly to read GL, others you nearly cant't decipher as GL. Just an idea, no ID! :-)
Regards
Micha

Thanks Potty Primate (Great name by the way, =) )
Ive tried to google that but cant get any information or pics similar to it.
The first letter "has" to be an A, just as you say. The second Im guessing maybe an S. The rest is very hard to figure out.
Big thanks again for your input, I will try googling ELBA som more.

Thank you Micha. Until you wrote it I´ve never heard of Gerhard Liebenthron. And I have to agree that his signature (when not writing GL ) is very hard to read ( Was he drunk thoose times? )
Been Googling him for quite a while now and allthough you might be right. I cant find any clay of his work that looks the same as on mine.
Big thanks for your input.

It's a long shot, but could it say 'EZRA'? I've found a Californian potter named Ezra Sage here; http://sagepottery.com/cups.html .There's no example of his mark on pots, but his signature is at the head of the page; I could imagine that when signed into clay, it could look somewhat like yours. There is also a similarity in the form of the pots, every vase on the page has a lightly flared base, just like yours. He works in stoneware as well as porcelain, and uses a variety of glaze techniques. Is the similarity enough to maybe send him an email?

I forgot to add that the link takes you to a page of cups, for the examples I gave click on the 'vases' tab.
