Studio Pottery Vase, Marked With A Seal.
Hi all,
I like this vase and would be interested to know if anyone knows who the maker may be.
It has a seal that did look to me like an M, but am now thinking it may be an A.
Thanks,
Potty.

Re: Studio Pottery Vase, Marked With A Seal.
Out of interest, with seals like the one used on this vase, does the potter add a little slip to the leather tough body and press it with a seal, a bit like a wax seal on an envelope?

I can't see the pics too well on my phone so I can't be sure but, if the mark is impressed on a tiny piece of clay which is then stuck on the wet pot with slip, it is known as a sprig. Some potters do it that way, Peter Beard is one.

Its a lovely vase. Pity the potter didn't take more care in keeping the glaze off the mark. It could be the bottom of an 'A'.... but it could be a lot of other things too.

I don't know very much about their work but I am wondering if your vase might be by Eddie & Margaret Curtis.
They have a web site, which you can "google" and I think that most of their work is now in porcelain but they have used stoneware in the past and may still do.

Re: Studio Pottery Vase, Marked With A Seal.
I have sent Eddie an email asking if he would mind taking a quick look at my vase.
Thanks again for the clue SP.
P.S. Big Ed, do this think it could be made by them? ( I noticed when looking for items made by them, that you have owned a few pieces)

Re: Studio Pottery Vase, Marked With A Seal.
He replied to my email (very fast reply too), it was not made by him or his wife and they did not know who made it.
Seem to me amassing rather a collection of pots I really like that I can not attribute
Funny as I thought this one would have been an easy I.D. also.

Re: Studio Pottery Vase, Marked With A Seal.
As you saw it does have similarities to their work but at the moment I can't think of any other possibilities - maybe European he says is desperation?

Re: Studio Pottery Vase, Marked With A Seal.
Thanks for having a go SP
You could be right about European, though I have a strong feeling it's British to be honest.
I don't mind having unknown pots, I like them just as much
To me it's a quite well made vase with a really nice shape/glaze, won't be parting with it for some time

P.S. now all I need is a minimalist style house and it will look great

Thanks Ed, mark looks like it could be her, but so far the work I have seen (online) is nothing like my vase.
