Is this Horst Kuba? It's as far as I can get, but I can't find an example of another.

ID Bird Please. Backstamp HK Empty HK mark Japanese

Post by Potty November 28th 2011, 3:59 pm

Hi mal.

I have seen a few items with this mark, I would think the monogram is "JHK".

Often these have a gold sticker with a "HHH" monogram.

It has a German look to it, but my guess would be the Far East somewhere.

This is better quality than most, but in general they are of poor quality in my opinion. (no offence intended)

Hope this helps your search.

Hi Potty, no offence taken at all. I bow to your far better knowledge than mine (which is almost, but not quite none), but I must say that I'm surprised that it is poor quality as the other pieces with it were 6 Royal Worcester birds, 1 Goebel bird (broken), a Capodimonte Giuseppe Cappe dog and 3 Naples figurines - all lovely quality, so I can't understand why the same person would have a tacky piece! Shrugs Maybe they had a moment of madness!

I may be wrong mal, I don't know much about modern molded ceramics.

The other items with this mark and coding system I've seen have been far worse than your bird, but I'm sure it's the same maker.

It's not awful, but to me looks poor compared to the likes of Beswick, Doulton, Worcester etc.
