Re: Artisania Rinconada (Uruguay)
Not Scandinavian Pat. This is from Uruguay. The company is Artesania Rinconada which was founded in the early 1970's by twin brothers who immigrated from Spain. The mark is a stylized "AR". This piece is listed at collectibleworld.net as "Old Tiger", retired in 1998. It is part of what is listed as the "Classic Collection". There has been quite an extensive menagerie produced. This type is hand carved leather hard clay and decorated with enamel glazes. Check out the site for quite a bit of information about AR. My wife collects these animals and I must admit I find them kind of appealing.

That's fabulous! Thank you, Calusa. I have been turning that tiger all different directions to try to make out a mark and wondered about "aR" as a possibility last evening. If your wife wants a tiger, let me know! :)

Artisania Rinconada (Uruguay)
I was given this figure about 20-25 years ago (c.1990). He is just a couple of inches long. I remember similar items being for sale at the time, but can't find any pictures online. Any ideas of who the maker may be would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Clare

Re: Artisania Rinconada (Uruguay)
Your otter was made by Artisania Rinconada in Montevideo, Uruguay. The company was started by two brothers in 1972. They have produced a remarkably diverse menagerie of animals over the years, many, such as your otter have been "retired" from production. All of the pieces in this particular line are hand carved and enameled. I find them quite amusing, and my wife collects them. A Google search of the name will lead you to a great deal of information on the company and their animals. Ebay and several other collector sites will give you an idea of value if you are interested.

Small Stoneware Fish ID Please
This is around 7 cm long, and base mark looks like an incomplete 8 followed by 7 & p.
Thanks,
Alan.

Re: Artisania Rinconada (Uruguay)
I wondered if it could be similar to the raku animals coming out of South Africa, but there's nothing with that depth of undr cut. Might still be African, though.

Re: Artisania Rinconada (Uruguay)
Pretty sure it's by Artesania Rinconada, Uruguay. Saw some ceramic animals today with exactly the same glaze and deep cuts on the surface.

Tiger figurine by Artesania Rinconada, Uruguay
Good morning all.
This tiger cub is 5" long and 3" tall, solid and very heavy for its size. The stripes appear to be made by cutting into the clay.
There are a myriad tiger figurines on the internet and I can see a Del Rosa similarity, but I have been unable to identify the makers mark.
Does anyone recognise this figurine/maker?
Thank you
Jack
