My Old Brown Jug! Any ideas please
Can anyone help me with an old jug that is now out of the loft and seeing daylight once again. The jug is an old family piece which looks like earthenware but feels harder more like stoneware. It has a few glaze runs and the handle seems too weak for the body so our family have never used it other then to put flowers in. There are a couple of impressed marks one being an M over another letter. Hope it may be recognised. Regards, stillscurrying

I think its a bird, seagull, not an M, I think it might be worth investigating cornish potters

The mark on the left is the Leach Pottery mark, St Ives

I thought Leach too, but its not very clear, I also saw reference to an Australian Les Blakebrough with a similar mark, but i bo not see the correlation in either case with the mark on the right, although i only did a cursory search.

I have been told that the impressed marks are firstly The Leach Pottery and the second is probably that of a then young potter that Bernard Leach took under his wing and taught, an American named Warren Mackenzie! I have looked up Warren Mackenzie and he has been a highly respected potter in his own right in his native America for many years. Thanks to those who sent replies, stillscurrying
