Re: Unsigned studio slab vase
It uses the style that originated at 19 Blackheath Road where Alan Wallwork and Bernard Rooke were working in the early 1960s and where Hudson was Alan's assistant for a time.
However, there is no sign of the hieroglyphics, based of their respective names, that the work of the 3 named above shows, so I don't think it is by any of them. I don't know Graham Fern's work so can't comment.
As an aside, I posted a picture of 19 Blackheath Road as it looks today on the "Images of Home" thread last week.

Re: Unsigned studio slab vase
Yes possibly , the indentation on the base does look like Alan wallworks early stuff though , so can't be 100% sure ,but that's the line I would go down , AW , LH, or Gf , there was another potter who did similar stuff , but I can't remember his name .nice piece .

Re: Unsigned studio slab vase
I thought it looked more AW than LH, although the guy who sold it me kindly informed me that it wasn't Troika as I handed over my £1, bargain!

I know for a fact that Wallwork did the notches on the post look , but as Sp says the decor isn't like him more like fern , I also know two sisters who worked at wallwork (Marhill ) and copied some pieces , but hey Ho , Dave for a Quid you done good , the seller was obviously a " put your money where your mouth is Expert "

Re: Unsigned studio slab vase
I know that the Wallwork cylinder and the Rooke pyramid below are not the same shape but I had the images to hand and they show the markings you would expect.

It was this one of Ed's that made me think Wallwork, similar colouring and a lack of the typical hieroglyphics that you you spoke of SP. Still a nice pot though and worth every bit of the money I gave. Hope it's ok with you to use your picture Ed.

Re: Unsigned studio slab vase
I have just received a reply to an email I sent earlier from a "well wisher" who states,
"Not me Guv. You could say it's an "Homage" de Alan Wallwork, or, just as much an " Homage" de Bernard Rooke as we were both making oblong slab pots at the same time and both doing relief patterning emerging from glaze, others did similar, as you know, some like Loius Hudson, (who still owes me money) who'd worked for me. This looks like a true slab vase, i.e slabs rolled out and joined, I made a few like that but mine were mostly coiled round a wooden former."

Re: Unsigned studio slab vase
It reminds me of a story that the potter, Bruce Chivers, told me about taking a mutual friend of ours to visit David Leach about 10 years ago.
Peter, the mutual friend, told Bruce that he had met David once about 15 years earlier and Bruce did remember that during the journey to Lowerdown that Peter was a little uneasy. Upon arriving, Bruce introduced Peter to David and David said, "Agh", went over to his till and pull out an invoice, which he gave to Peter saying, "You still owe me this money from your last visit".
