Julian Francis dragon
Hi all, I have a collection of vintage ClareCraft wizards etc. I also have some other pieces - mirrors and a lamp. Thye don't have the Clare Craft labels or marks. Do you know the pottery please? I'm SURE I've seen it somewhere but 've been googling all morning and now my brain is googled too! Thank you in advance for any help." />

Re: Julian Francis dragon
Are there any marks to the inside. The bernard Pearson pieces I have seen had a circular mark with the seperate Clare Craft and not Clarecraft. (not sure but think late eighties when it changed) also a painted initial might be in it. Nice piece and if it is clarecraft it should fetch a pretty penny.

Re: Julian Francis dragon
Thanks Petet63. I can't see any mark at all on it unfortunately. As I say, it was with some other pieces which have Clarecraft labels, except for one of the wizard/witch pieces which has a big painted S on the inside. I'm really hoping it IS Clarecraft. Here's another piece, again - no marks:

Re: Julian Francis dragon
I just sold 2 wizards, one had the circle mark (around 86) without the painters sig mark. the other had a faint mark that could easily have been missed and a painted initial. There used to be a collectors site but I cant find it. Discworld has taken it all over. They do look the part and the mirror rings a bell in my mind but cant find it yet The style of the Dragons are another feature I have seen. Ive scoured the net but as usual mostly discworld and the odd wizard. Sometimes these pieces are signed in unusual(amongst rocks was one I had) places that look part of the piece. A magnifying glass might find something. In MHO they are clare craft.

Re: Julian Francis dragon
I'm also a fan of early Claire Craft. Didn't look right to me, so glad to see it wasn't. I think the early stuff is fantastic quality.
But years ago I was informed by the shop I bought them from that the pottery (or name) was sold, but them sometime later re-aquired by Bernard - not sure on the facts of this?
I have several pieces, but all except one are Claire Craft, just one is labeled claircraft. To my eye, the quality declined after he sold it. So I stopped buying it.
If anyone is interested, I can take and post some pic's (on here or in a seperate post - state which).

Re: Julian Francis dragon
We should re-name this thread Julian Francis now we have an ID. So it would be great if you could show us the Clare craft in a new thread.

Re: Julian Francis dragon
I've edited the main Julian Francis thread to add 'dragon' because that's what he's best known for.

Re: Julian Francis dragon
definitely look like it. My friend used to work for him, in Rotherham, and I did odd bits too. Julian moved to Scotland in the early/mid 1990’s.Potty wrote:They are by Julian Francis.
I still have a few bits myself.
