gerstley borate?
I am having problems with my glaze that contains gerstley borate. I am getting some cratering or some such something on a lot of my pots. It seems to be near the side that is closest to the kiln elements. Please help me! Thanks much!

Re: gerstley borate?
Not a maker myself but I understand that Gerstley borate has or is about to run out. It has been used by potters or by glaze suppliers as it is relatively cheap but I am informed that it has always been inconsistant. Its main use was for roofing tiles where inconsistances such as what you describe as not important. So cheap and useless is how many potters describe it.
One recommendation, as a more reliable alternative, is Gillespie borate.

Almost it was Dukla Prague, who sadly no longer exist.

If you don't understand a word that is being written it is indeed an odd thread.
Personally, I think it is the weirdest thread on the net let alone this site.
