Mug like a brick
A strange mug. I saw another one in a junk shop recently but with no info known about it.
It's not a thing of beauty - crudely made but functional. It's incredibly light - the fabric is more like plaster than clay, originally white but gone dirty with age. Odd thing, I don't know whether I like it or not.

Hi, I've seen this pattern before on small jugs. I believe they date from the 1800s, and it's called a checker-board pattern where the red slip, over a cream body, is scraped off to give the alternating two-tone colours.
This is my jug - it's only a couple of inches high. They crop up on ebay every so often.
