Skandesco, West Germany
Spotted this lamp in one of the local charity shops priced at £20 - you get a lot of lamp per pound. There's a much smaller version in another charity shop. The smaller version has a paper label inside with patent? numbers and 'Made In England (or Made in UK, can't remember exactly), even though the 'fat lava' glaze gives it a German look.
There are 3 'finger holes' in the side handle/flange (the third hole is hidden by the base).
Anyone know the designer? The charity would be happy to know more about it (I'm one of their volunteers).

Re: Skandesco, West Germany
If it is English I'd assume Fosters Pottery.
Is it a very white earthenware?

Yes, very white. The brown glaze is right, but can't find any Fosters with chunky fat lava glaze.

Cheers, I'll add that to my search list.
Re: Skandesco, West Germany
With Fosters Pottery I think the White lava type decorations is within the gloss glaze (hard to see in the picture).
If it's not that Ed's suggestion is probably closer.

Yes, I'm not convinced it's Fosters because the white glaze on the lamp is definitely sitting on top. Around the base there's almost a splatter effect.

just wanted to write you a PM but i couldn't do so: "the administrator has prevented you to..."
Re: Skandesco, West Germany
Not sure why that's happened But I can't really add anything to what I said before. The attribution seemed solid at the time but I'm not sure if I'd find it again. I'll have hunt and post the original ID if I find it.

Hi Naomi!
Just tried again to send you a PM and still this doesn't work and i get this information:
"Sorry, but the administrator has prevented you from sending private messages."
Thank you for searching and posting this base pic.
I have some doubts if there existed a pottery/company with this name. The writing on your pic looks handmade and not like an imprint which was made on many items. My theory is that only one of these lamps in the web has these letters on the base and all others take it as the proof or origin of an ID. I might be wrong, there is still a lot to find out concerning midcentury german pottery.
In the last years some wrong IDs were to be found everywhere in the web and sooner or later the truth appeared. As examples i want to mention Hoy/Heyne, Soendgen/Walter Gerhards, Marei/Roth etc.
Regards
Micha

Micha have you got private messaging disaabled? We can't send you one either.
Go to your "profile/preferences" and enable private messaging, it may work then.

Yes sorry your private message facility was switched off in 'admin' I don't know why. I've enabled it again.
