Great big jug?

HI, sorry about the plethora of query posts but the broadband seems to be working ok and I'm grabbing the opportunity to get some pics uploaded.

This is a lovely jug. Bought it on Sunday and it's a strangely compelling piece of pottery...seems to dominate a room if you know what I mean?
The scratched sig is D McP and there's a date (May. 96)
I'd love to know something about it, so here's hoping....
