Just picked up this incised porcelain studio? pot with an interesting stamp. Does anyone recognize this stamp? Looks like SCJ. [img][/img][img][/img][img][/img]

Re: Studio Porcelain incised pot Celadon Glaze
I'd call it a carved studio porcelain bud vase.
I really like it, will have a look in a book to see if i can find the maker.

Re: Studio Porcelain incised pot Celadon Glaze
Thanks so much. I tried googling the initials in different sequences, but couldn't come up with any leads. I think that it's amateurish but still a great form and interesting carving. Looks very earthy and gourd like. Just had to share it with y'all!

Can't help with who it is but it is not amateurish.

Not a mark I can find unfortunately, but it's still a great vase in my opinion.

I found something similar by M3Pottery on Etsy, but I can't find a mark on any of their items.

I suspect that if you found it near to where you live in Florida then it is quite likely to be a potter who lives or has shown around there. Only trouble is that there are a large number of potters down your way.

Re: Studio Porcelain incised pot Celadon Glaze
Nice monogram & glaze, but the incised lines are a bit wonky.

Thank you Naomi. The incised lines are wonky, the bottom doesn't have a foot, and the neck is a little thick and uneven.....that's why I said it was amateurish. I also did studio pottery and sculpture for over 20 years.

Yup!, you can usually tell a lot about the foot of a pot , the amateur sometimes doesn't do it so well.

In my opinion this adds to the charm

Re: Studio Porcelain incised pot Celadon Glaze
Sorry boys, but I have to disagree. Having taken evening classes in pottery I know how difficult it is to do it properly, and how easy it is to do it like this potter has done.

I wish my evening class pieces came out as well as this

At my age it's good to be called a boy and you have every right to disagree but I do remember you saying this on here the other day and I quote,
"The trouble with studio potters like Ursula Mommens is it's not obvious that it's a great piece of work. If one of her pots came into the charity shop where I work it would have £3-£4 slapped on it, and wouldn't even make it into the window display for antiques & collectables."
