Christopher Brewchorne Updates
Hi , I think that this information will be useful as I have come across a Chris Brewchorne's basalt lava over a high iron glaze bowl. As a result, I have a chance to speak to him and get a bit more update on when he started potting and what he had been doing after retiring from potting after closing the gallery shop back in 2014.
First of all he said that the mark is C B, which in his words:
“ It's not a snail, it's a C and B sandwiched together with a swirl, that's all. “
I asked that when did he started potting, he said that he was a pro from 1987-2014 and have his own gallery for 10 years, as some information has been stated in the news link above. The reason for the closure was due to the landlord wanted to use the pottery for other purposes. Here is his reply of his current retiring activities:
“……….. After my landlord wanted the pottery premises for other uses, I tried my hand at oak, as I own an ancient woodland. I've made rustic furniture, planked timber and sold logs for a decade before slowing down from health and age. I don't rule out making pots again, but on a smaller scale mainly for pleasure. “
He is currently only 64, so there may be a chance that he will pot again for fun.
And here is a photo of his works on display from him:
I hope this helps.

Re: Chris Brewchorne, Dowlish Pottery
Love reading personal anecdotes. He may have intended it to be a CB mark but, honestly, it’s a snail shell
