Post by keramark September 1st 2011, 9:30 pm

Personally i have seen this box in 3 different colours, how many more are they and which colour is rare !!!. I have seen a clear one, a green one,  and this one has a hint of very pale blue to it.

You can add amber and uranium (unless you class that as green) to this Sowerby barrel

I'd like to see a uranium one under U.V. lights, I'll bet it's stunning.
If you've seen them in green, this very pale blue, and clear, I'd assume there'd also be an amber and 'sapphire' blue, and possibly a non-uranium 'emerald' green too.

The clear is known as flint
The pattern is 2544

Which clear one's called flint, fuzzyedges, the one in keramark's photo or the uncoloured clear? I only ask because I'd have said that the one in the photo has a flinty hue.

Sowerby's never refer to clear or uncoloured always to flint in there catalogues
Photos are so deceiving Uranium is nearly always shown with a uv light in pictures whilst in reality they always look draber plus there are colour variations in the the colours dependant on the additives mix

Cheers fuzzyedges Excellent
So would the box above be called flint as well as one with less colour in the mix, or is it one of their 'intentional' colourways with its own name?
Please forgive the inquisition, but I love to learn new things, even at my age Cheeky

Brilliant, thank you. Excellent I'm fascinated by the art (alchemy?) of glass-making. Just the fact that glass is actually a super-cooled liquid I find amazing.

Is this Sowerby, Bagley or Davidson in your opinion. There is no makers mark at all. I found it very confusing online. Is it 1930's? At certain angles it is very green, so I think it definitely 'uranium' glass. How can I know for sure without one of those purple lights?

don't know if you found it already on line at Rubylane, but there's one that is listed as Sowerby

"circa 1922. It is the documented "Butterflies & Daffodils" pattern No. 2552"

I have found a few of these over the years with all the pots and candle sticks, some have been uranium and some not. I don't know any other way of checking apart from using a blacklight Shrugs

Definitely Sowerby. Comes in uranium and non-uranium green but my experience tells me yours is most probably not uranium
