Re: Chris Lewis, South Heighton
Chris started potting at South Heighton in 1976, after hearing from the potter Michael OBrien that Ursula Mommens had some studio space there that she wished to share.
It was only in the early years that are officially covered by this forum that Chris marked his work so much of his work on the secondary market will be unmarked and largely unidentified. About 10 years ago he began to mark his pots once again.
The bowl above posted by climberg64 may look a little like Abuja Pottery from Nigeria, which is due to Chris's love of tribal art and what I imagine is a slight modification of a Michael OBrien Abuja glaze recipe.
I'll add a couple of other unmarked examples below and at a later date add a close up of the mark he uses today

Re: Chris Lewis, South Heighton
I have posted the image below elsewhere on this forum (probably in the Nature thread) but the large water feature next to the dozing fox was made by Chris.
It was wood-fired and made in two sections.

2 minutes and without images, I'm feeling redundant!

Make way for the "young un's"
There were images when I looked, but with the title I had a fair idea, as it's a maker I've come across a few times now.
We still need you SP, I only know the easy ones

Re: Chris Lewis, South Heighton
It would have been made by Chris in the first few years after going to join Ursula Mommens at South Heighton in 1976. I say that because of the style and due to him not marking his work for around 20 years before starting again this century.
We old un's can remember the 1970s.

Re: Chris Lewis, South Heighton
Chris marked his work very early on in his career (in the late 1970s) and not again until around 10 years ago. All the pieces above are unmarked but I have something with his mark on that I'll dig out.

Re: Chris Lewis, South Heighton
I'm no expert but I looked at a lot of these HS combinations a while ago when researching one of my own pots.
Have a look at Christopher Lewis of South Heighton Pottery.
Others on here, more learned than myself, will be able to confirm/repudiate.

Yup, I'm thinking Chris Lewis too

Re: Chris Lewis, South Heighton
It's definitely by Chris. He didn't mark his work for many years but does these days. It dates from the last 10 years.

Re: Chris Lewis, South Heighton
Chris is interested in tribal art hence the shape and the "white" is a porcelain slip.

Re: Chris Lewis, South Heighton
My "throne" for the garden arrived today. It's approx. 80 cm (32 inches) across and it took 4 of us to man handle it into position.

Stoneware studio teapot quail decoration - Chris Lewis
Unmarked! It’s well potted, just slightly heavier than could be so maybe a very good hobby potter.
Lovely quail type decoration.
Any ideas who? Feel someone must know as this person has made dozens of teapots I’m sure.
Also what has produced the drip effect of the glaze? Would birds be waxed out for decoration?
I really hope someone recognises this. Thank you.

Re: Chris Lewis, South Heighton
Lovely. My first thought is Abuja or Chris Lewis but I’d expect there to be a mark.
Just checked Chris Lewis’s teapots and they’re the same shape so I’m confident it’s his
