Re: Aller Vale Pottery, Torquay (Devon)
The pattern is "Sandringham" (this is what the C1 bit means).
Likey to be later production, but someone else on here would likely know more date wise than me guessing!

Re: Aller Vale Pottery, Torquay (Devon)
I think early 20th Century because of the stamped Allervale mark. In earlier pieces it was handwritten.

This impressed seriph mark was used c1885-1897.

Sweet little thing. The Torquay collectors society have a wealth of information about Aller vale and the other companies from the area. A quick google will get you a link and all you could ever need about them.

Thanks everyone. I can't believe it's age!... and it is a lovely little pot.
I've contacted the Torquay Collectors Society (thanks for that info) they have a section for people who are looking out for certain items, so I've sent photos and offered it to the collectors. Fingers crossed it'll find a worthy home.

"Normandy" or "Green and Straw" c1890s.
Most items unmarked, some only shape numbers.

Moulded white clay jug, Torquay scroll pattern - Aller Vale
Moulded jug, just over 11cm tall. Made of white clay, decorated with a multicoloured scroll pattern in trailed slip. Glazed base, with illegible incised mark. Would I be right in thinking this is an earlyish example of Aller Vale slipware? The brown splodges on the base are definitely over the pale body.

Re: Aller Vale Pottery, Torquay (Devon)
A fair bit of the early Aller vale in white clay was unmarked in my experience.
Re: Aller Vale Pottery, Torquay (Devon)
I'm pretty sure there is an incised mark (lower edge of the 4th photo), too long to be a pattern number, but it's even less clear in real life.

Re: Aller Vale Pottery, Torquay (Devon)
So the date would be c1890 or so?

Re: Aller Vale Pottery, Torquay (Devon)
Just adding my piece of Aller Vale motto ware here for anyone to admire!
I got this a few weeks ago.. it caught my eye in a charity shop and I liked it.. paid under £2 for it.. knew nothing about Aller Vale until I got home and looked into it.
I am going to keep my eye out for more now as ive seen lots of nice pieces while researching!

Can't make out the word at all, but I think this is from the "Normandy" range.

Re: Aller Vale Pottery, Torquay (Devon)
what if there is no word but a number ? or combined number and letters as a code ? like 1043..( 1M )
i read that Aller Valle used codes for its shapes

A lovely piece, shape 1552, from the Grotesque series of novelties.
Never seen one, but it is shown on a factory pattern sheet from c1910.
I'll merge with the Aller thread in due course.
