Re: Lucie Rie
Well.. I think a real pedant would point out that by using the Bank of England inflation calculation that £10 in 1966 was actually worth, in real terms now £190.51

Hi Philpot, nice to see a good piece of pottery being posted, these spiral mixed clay pieces have great appeal and it has been said that this particular technique inspired Ewen Henderson (although i doubt that he would have admitted it). I think all of these tall flared rim pieces for me are probably her best work .

Re: Lucie Rie
Interestingly enough, that one is on show in the Wakefield Hepworth Gallery. Where of course they have a large selection of John Ward. Not one of which was on show!
The spiral process is very difficult apparently, and the spiral is different in each of this type of vase.

Re: Lucie Rie
Like many museums they make a big fuss about gifts and say how extremely grateful they are about the collections that are given and then put them into storage . In the case of the John Ward pots i think they might possibly show a few in the future , they recently bought an Odundo pot for £85,000 but i am not sure if this is on show yet.

I must start looking under plant pots for marks

Re: Lucie Rie
The pinkish glaze and pinkish spiral were absolutely gorgeous on this piece. But it was so very difficult to get a decent photo of it! There seemed as much elusiveness in the photo as was the romance in the piece. So not the best photo.
It seems it was probably a second, as the neck was slightly out of true from the kiln, and slight damage on the shoulder.
The mark suggests circa 1982.
22 cms high, and a real beauty for all its faults. Others must have thought that as well. Hammer price was £7000!
