Re: Simon Rich
Think it's Simon Rich, not 100% sure though.

Re: Simon Rich
I agree with Potty. Decor is typical of Simon's early work.

Bulbous vase, copper matte raku - Simon Rich
I wouldn't normally give this house, or even shed, room but the mark's a bit intriguing - seems a bit elaborate for something so plain.
Almost like plaster / chalkware, it's white earthenware with a burnished matt exterior (looks to be unglazed) which marks easily and chips even more easily ! Interesting mark on the underside - oval pad with a curly monogram which looks to be SR. The larger vase, pictured, is still intact but the smaller one - which has the clearer mark (also pictured) - became a bit chipped just through holding it.
Probably some foreign tat (not to say that we don't produce plenty of our own tat, of course) but any opinion would be welcome. Unless it's anything special it'll be going into the charity shop box - up to five banana boxes at the moment, the result of buying cheap auction lots for the odd item or two.

Re: Simon Rich
Thanks, Naomi, fount of knowledge as usual. Perhaps too good to offload to the charity shop - they'd almost certainly sell it for 20p anyway!

Re: Simon Rich
Might they be by Marg Hall at Winton pottery? Similar mark posted in another thread.

Re: Simon Rich
Thanks again Naomi. Welsh is not surprising as they were part of a mixed lot at a local auction.

Re: Simon Rich
Its crystalline glaze which not many potters specialised in. I wonder if its a mark by Simon Rich that does not appear in the Yates Owen marks book? He is one of the few potters that did crystalline glazes. He is based at Narberth in Wales. It is a very nice looking piece. Lucky you!
