Simon Rich "crystalline" glaze pot
I bought this pot, by Simon Rich, at the Nant y Coy Gallery in Pembrokeshire inthe 1990s. This was the first time I'd ever seen this kind of glaze, but this texture is common in devitrified glassy igneous rocks. To mineralogists, petrologists and material scientists the texxture would be termed "spherulitic" (the individual radiating crystal clusters are "spherulites")...
Seeing it on a pot like this was incredible, and I had to buy the pot. I still like it, and I still marvel at these incredible glazes, although they are maybe a bit flashy, and can sometimes overwhelm the pots they're applied to.
The radiating crystals are a zinc silicate mineral which occurs in nature as the mineral willemite, but natural willemite never looks like this. There's quite a lot of scientific papers on these glazes. Most are behind paywalls, but there is some stuff freely available too:

Re: Simon Rich
Crystalline glaze is the technical term for it. It is indeed a beautiful glaze on this one. There are there are not many modern potters that do it. Matt Horne is one of the few practicing potters who use it, and his work is also spectacular
