I'm sure we've had this discussion before, but can anyone clarify the time line between Anthony/Tony Bristow's pottery at Chillington, Devon; Andrew Bristow's pottery at Bonchurch,IoW, and Bristow Pottery in Malta, which was taken over in the eartly 70s. they all produced similar style of pottery in the 70s, but were the two Bristows related, and which one was in Malta?

The 2 potteries are not really connected as such. Andrew (Bonchurch Pottery) came later, was self-taught and uses a different style, though he was the son of Tony.

For Bristow Pottery (Tony) locations:

Bonchurch from 1961-1967
Shanklin 1966-1972
Malta 1968-1970 (during the winters I believe)
Palm Beach 1972-1974
Chillington 1974-2003 (As far as I know)

Andrew started in Bonchurch from 1974 and I believe he is still there.

The signature may be bit similar (between the Tony pieces made at Bonchurch and Andrews Bonchurch Pottery), but the pots are very different.

Usually the Bristow pottery peices have form of "BP" monogram as well as the signed place name.

Thank Potty Most Excellent

The styles are different now, but this early Bonchurch pot seems to be in Tony's style

Edited to add, Andrew's entry in a booklet of Isle of Wight pottery has his incised Bonchurch mark and it matches these early pots with the chattering, made in his father's style.

Guess he did start out in a similar style, guess good to start on something you know sells.

A couple sourses say he was "self-taught", maybe his dad helped a bit Excellent
