A 6 inch high frilly vase. The J seems to be impressed, the other letters incised.

I have a jug with the same impressed mark although writing in a different hand. Marked Arreton 7/82. will try to add a photo later. Did you ever find out the maker?

The monochrome glaze, and the shape reminds me of the pre-war Samuel Saunders IOW pottery. But that a clearly specific ink stamp. There might be some connection somewhere maybe.

Philpot, is that an ink stamp or a normal stamp with the glaze painted into it (or am I just misunderstanding you)? It looks as though the potter also dipped whatever he inscribed the date and 'IOW' with in the glaze pot.
With the circle around the 'J' it could be either Jo or J.O. / O.J. The only Jo I can think of in associations with I.O.W. is Jo Lester, but these would be from right at the end of his potting career, the mark is not like his and it's nothing like his usual work in style and decoration.

Not much use, I know, but it can be helpful to rule out names in order to find the right one.

Its an ink stamp. Jo Lester's production and that of his proteges was very commercially orientated tourist giftware. Very good it was too. We used to live in Southampton, and saw a lot of it at Boot Fairs. Its just that glaze and form. It really would not have sold well in the market they produced their wares for.

Interesting, there is a place on the IOW called Arreton, which is where Haseley Manor pottery was situated. (1976-2000)
Not sure if there is any connection though, there's nothing else in the IOW book.

I live on the Isle of Wight and have been doing some research with the local heritage facebook group, as well as the mystery pots page on Facebook. It was your post that confirmed it as Isle of Wight, as there was some mis-reading of Arreton implied. I have spoken to people associated with Haseley and it's definitely not from there, though apparently a pottery was set up at nearby Arreton Manor (IOW has more manor houses per sq mile than any other UK county), and there were various potters working there, and that's a close as we have got with it. I definitely think it's a letter J. Not Jo Lester. Not Carol Jaye. Isle of Wight stoneware vase, Arreton Manor. 2maq1j10

Curious, thank you for your images and research. Looks like a so far undocumented
IOW pottery from the 80s.
Feel free to use my images if you need to.

A couple of other mysteries if you've got the bug!

Hello, no idea about the Cowes one but the sponge ware could be by Yolanda Budd: I’ll ask her
