Re: Colin Pearson
Early piece by Colin Pearson, likely to be pre-1970s. From his domestic ware range

Re: Colin Pearson
Nice! Fascinating really how Colin Pearson made that transition from reasonable production potter in the Leach vein to Fine Art potter. The amazing contrast being fully illustrated on this thread. , Off the cuff, I cannot think of any potter who made quite the same journey so spectacularly.

I suppose you could include John Maltby in the same category but I know what you mean. I did meet him a few times but never got around to asking him and, like you, I would be fascinated to know how it came about.

Lovely short film made in 1998 showing Colin Pearson making a large winged pot with commentary by him. Really well worth watching.

Re: Colin Pearson
I’d put Richard Godfrey in the same category. I met him at Farhnam Art In Clay a few years before his death and commented about his potting style being so different and he said it was because he could now afford to concentrate on the pottery he loved and didn’t have to make a living from it like he did when he was churning out thousands of standard ware pieces for restaurant chains in London and the South East in the 70s-80s

Maybe made at the same time as Denby’s vase at the top

Re: Colin Pearson
This was the damage on the Colin Pearson piece above.
. A fault that these delicate wings are prone to. Can be restored by a professional restorer (at a price!) to look as good as new. By the very nature of the wings if the restoration was well done, it would be very difficult to tell. But still a restored piece. Did not seem to bother the eventual owner tho. It still went for a substantial price!
