I know we've had this mark a couple of times before. Parking this here until I find the original ID requests.
Inscribed JW mark, by John Wright, Cresswell, Staffs. He has several Medieval style pieces on eBay.

John Wright - British studio pottery
I contacted this chap about his pots, turns out he is a thoroughly nice fellow and has some lovely creations up for sale.
He has not been potting seriously for that long as he was in the music industry for some 40 odd years before he changed direction and gave his creative energies to the wheel.
His ebay page is well worth a visit, his prices are very competitive when you consider what goes into these unique pieces.

Re: John Wright, Cresswell, Staffordshire
Hard work making any decent money selling as a potter on Ebay. The whole philosophy of Ebay mostly tends to be a cheapo race to the bottom.
Given that, I just do not understand the anonymity in the headers. Studio pottery is a very personal choice, and a great number of people like the idea of a pot being by a name they can identify with. There are always well over 10,000 items in Studio pottery alone on Ebay. Most people browse very quickly. Personally, I ignore anonymous pottery. There is just too much on there. Standing out is very important. You really do have to push yourself and reputation in any way possible.

Re: John Wright, Cresswell, Staffordshire
I may be completely wrong here, but my impression was that he is quite a relaxed person and maybe he is not desperate to make a living from it, he may not need to. All assumptions on my part and as I mention previously, I may be wrong.
But, I agree ref' standing out & pushing yourself forward, particularly if you want to make anything of an impression on people and become a recognised name. Like you say Phil, there is a dearth of pottery on there and most just look for the pieces they want by specific potters.

He has some lovely pieces on eBay, but I do wish he’d use a stamp rather than an illegible scrawl

Re: John Wright, Cresswell, Staffordshire
There are a handful of hobby potters selling on eBay but I think Etsy would be a better platform imo

Interestingly when you Google John Wright potter. There is a Canadian potter by that name, and a British potter who has been exhibiting widely since 1980. And this one. Somewhat confusing.

There's a lot of potters out there with similar / same names and more than a few who have provided me with a headache or two, trying to match pots to marks and all of the deciphering jiggery pokery that goes with it. Thank heavens for this wonderful site and all of you splendid folk, this place is bursting with knowledge and is an absolute godsend. Great to be able to talk about it as well with some likeminded people, my partners eyes often glaze over as she tries to show interest, bless her.

Hi All
New member.
I have about a dozen John Wright pots. Mostly Wabi Sabi style. All as stunning as they appear in ebay images, where he goes under theark48.
Very versatile potter, who seems, as suggested, quite relaxed about selling. Comes over as a very nice chap (on email ).
I'd add an image if I could work out how.
