Re: Royal Doulton (England)
Somewhere between 1869-1891, when "England" was added.
But as it's a non-decorative item, then probably before 1880.

Re: Royal Doulton (England)
The company was Doulton & Co. Ltd from 1854 to 1993 so that doesn't really narrow the age of the jug down and like you say I haven't been able to find the exact mark either. It does look like the marks that were used from 1869 to 1877 though.
Other things that might suggest that age is that there is no England in the mark and the fact that it is a plain white/cream coloured jug suggests that it was for industrial or trade use rather than domestic.

Snap SP!
Have you measured the capacity? the numbers may relate to that, or just simply a
shape number.

Re: Royal Doulton (England)
Thanks SP/Denby for all your help . I just posted back but my message has disappeared.
I have roughly calculated it would hold approx' 16 litres, so over 20kg full. I'm not sure the handle could survive that weight

It's strong stuff that Doulton!
I was thinking in Quarts / Gallons.
Unless it was a display piece.

Re: Royal Doulton (England)
It is stoneware and would withstand the weight but from your calculation it would have held around 3.5 gallons so the 2 and E don't seems to be relate directly to the capacity.
It's about a tenth of a barrel of beer so a handy size.

Re: Royal Doulton (England)
SP around 20 years ago when I was a student in my 20s I worked in a remote pub on saddleworth moor and we used to serve beer from earthenware jugs/from the barrel.
It was like going back in a time warp , haven't been there since but I bet they still do it that way.

Re: Royal Doulton (England)
Picked a couple of Royal Doulton pieces up at auction recently. This is the first - a whisky flask. I haven't found enough online to determine it's value so any help would be appreciated. I rather like it!

Re: Royal Doulton (England)
This was the second item of Royal Doulton in the lot. Would these both be Lambeth?

Re: Royal Doulton (England)
It's humongous! Need more info? Size? Did it come for public place? Is it undamaged? Looks in amazing condition SP?
Re: Royal Doulton (England)
I imagine they are standard 6 inch square tiles and it's one of three in St. Thomas' Hospital just south of Westminster Bridge. So I don't own it.

Re: Royal Doulton (England)
Never been a great fan of Doulton, but my one example is quite pretty.
Never really managed to date it, maybe 20s? or ID the decorator, it looks like BIY or BN?

Royal Doulton Date Please
Please can you date this Royal Doulton tea ware for me? On the base of the jug it has an embossed 93, but on the other pieces, it has 12.22 (as photo). Thank you.

Re: Royal Doulton (England)
Doulton have continued to make the same designs throughout the 20th century so dating can be difficult. The clue normally lies in the design of the signature mark used. This one looks to be from the 20's to early 1930's but it is very easy to chack. The pattern will have a name and a look at google images from doulton tea sets will give that to you. As for the numbers that is going to be the number for those ceramic shapes.
