Re: Arabia (Finland)
The decoration looks very well done but just not in Arabia style.

Arabia. Kaj Franck "Kilta"
Hi Guys, I have visited my local charity shop and you should see the smile on my face when I've seen the makers mark on the ceramics. However after closer inspection I doubt I've spent my 5 quid wisely
I got a tea pot, creamer and a cup + saucer. All stamped Arabia but the quality of the ceramics is so to say questionable. The marks look strange as well, one of the marks have been rubbed off as well.
Any ideas? Is it far east production or maybe lower grade Arabia hotel ware?

Re: Arabia (Finland)
Seems legit. Most appear to bear the 1949-64 mark, and one with the 1971-75 mark, so I suspect the quality of the earlier ones may be due to post-war shortages.
The loss of the mark may be due to it not being dishwasher-proof.

Re: Arabia (Finland)
That's interesting Naomi, you may be right about the shortages, Finns had some tough times when Soviet Russia tried to "free the working class of Finland" and lost quite big piece of their land. I have nice pre war lustre piece and the quality of that one is brilliant.
The other thing is that there were 2 pots, 2 creamers and quite a few cups + saucers in the shop. How over 10 pieces (some of them identical) in almost unused condition end up in the charity shop? The mark also looks a bit dodgy, the pattern is fine but it looks like somebody grabbed white spray paint and well made stencil

Probably an old and unwanted wedding gift.

I'll just have to live with it. The thing is I didn't handle too many pieces of Arabia tableware so cannot compare it to anything.

Re: Arabia (Finland)
Does anyone know where to find a listing of designers/makers for Arabia pottery around 1900's to 1920's?

jlg77006 wrote:Hi All- I bought a nice little vase today at a tag sale, marked Arabia L.L. My first thought is that it's possibly Lisa Larsson, but I can't see anything of her work that looks like my vase. Anyone know of any other L.L. that did studio work at Arabia? Thanks
Hi,
It is by the Finn Liisa Hallamaa (Larsen) who work for Arabia from 1950 to 1971. Her pieces are marked LH or LL (after she married). She then worked on her own. She is a different person from the Swedish Lisa Larson.

Milk jug with cat motif, designed by Kaj Franck in the 1960s for Arabia, Finland.
I don't know how many variations there are, but I've seen dark blue on light blue, dark green on light green, and this is dark blue on green.
Same both sides -

A "RUSKA" Stoneware teapot with it's internal strainer, designed by
Ulla Procope 1960. The mark suggests a manufacture date of 1971,
so this classic design must have had quite a long production run.

Re: Arabia (Finland)
The Ruska range was one of the company's most successful and was not discontinued until 1999.

Re: Arabia (Finland)
I think it's SAS Scandinavian Airlines, with the three cross flags representing the three counties involved: Denmark, Norway and Sweden. If you Google "SAS airlines winged badge", you'll find some coloured versions of the logo.
