I see a lot on the US studio pottery groups. They seemed to have been made largely for the American Market. Some with quite garish colours

It’s a completely different market from the early Bernard Rooke pottery I get that now and was sceptical as too perfect and similar items out there, as I always say someone will love it 🥰

There were/are a large number of US Airbases around the part of East Anglia where the Rooke family live, hence why it has gone to the States.

I remember going to the showroom years ago and it was full of this stuff and worse.

I remember around 30 years ago a dealer friend on my mine, who lived in East Anglia, used to find American service families selling big lamp bases by Rooke, including the ones on metal poles around 5 feet tall, at Boot Fairs all of the time. Too big to ship back when their tour of duty ended, hence the prices of 50p to £1.

Its the big floor lamps that sell well as statement decorative pieces. This one is smaller than those, so its worth is less. There is a lot of Rooke on Ebay most of the time, so look on 'sold' prices to get and idea of prices. The main trouble is weight and size. While Ebay is the cheapest to sell, and the best market, carriage will be expensive, and they level charges on that. Local auction houses are a possibilty, but they tend to be expensive for items that do not sell for appreciable prices. Either way unfortunately, you won't make your fortune yet!

The nearest auction houses to you that run specialist 'Design' sales would be Mallams in Oxford, and W.H.Peacock in Bedford. An e-mail with accompanying photo would probably get you a valuation. But check their fee price closely!

Adam Partridge holds a specialist studio pottery auction a couple of times a year. Best to contact them to see if they can arrange a collection. I know their appraiser travels round the country; there may somewhere near by you can meet him.
Or maybe there's someone at a local antiques place where they have multiple dealers, who would buy it or sell it for you on commission.
I wouldn't post it; you can list it as buyer collects on ebay.

In those years he rented studio space off Alan Wallwork, who also had studios at the same address. They sold a lot of this stuff to the posh stores like Heal's. There was quite a lot of cross fertilisation of ideas amongst potters working in close proximity. Robert and Sheila Fournier also worked there, and you can see the same influence in his work of that period.

It is from the late 20th century when Bernard's children were producing pieces using moulds.

There were a number of intricate built up functional items when I visited the showroom. Going back even further I remember seeing floor lamps from the 1970s (even with glass shelves) that were made in stoneware on a central metal cylinder core. The stoneware pieces were made with a hole down the centre and they could be built up in different combinations like threading beads.

Its the floor lamps that are fetching high prices now. Big in the retro design market. That is a nice one you have there. How big is it? New purchase?

I’m led to believe the glazed piece is a rarity any thoughts. All recent from an avid collector.
