Hi

just joined the forum, and am finding it rather interesting.  However, I am still finding it hard to identify my German pottery.  How do you find out what form numbers relate to which designer if there is no name on the base, or original sticker on the item?  Is there an online data base/catalogue from which I can research what pieces I have, when they were made, where and by who?  For example the post above is 553-38, but if it does not say on the piece that it is a Scheurich, then how does Marcusborra know that it is a Scheurich piece?

Any advice on how to know what is what would be greatly appreciated.

Here is an image of the base which belongs to the photo of the vase that I posted.

West German Studio Pottery floor vase decorated in brown, cream and brown manufactured by Scheurich Keramik.
Marked on the base W. Germany and 553-38 (the shape number and size are difficult to see as they are covered in glaze).  
Height: 38cm




Sorry I did not give details at the time I did not consider it to be necessary as it was just an another example on the forum of colours and decoration.

Scheurich ceramics are very common and there is considerable information available on the internet, just try 'Googling' them.

(1954-current)
Although they started late, Scheurich produced more items from the 1960s through the 1980s than any of the other  German art pottery companies.  As usual, high production numbers means a wide range of quality and quality control, but some items, especially glazes are major achievements.
