Poole Pottery 1980 to present day - Page 5 Empty Modern Poole Pottery

Post by Squirrellady August 7th 2012, 2:12 pm

Hello, this is my first post on here and it looks like a good site. Hoping to get to know more about 20th Century Poole Pottery, of which I have a small collection.

Would anyone be kind enough to identify these painters' marks for me, with their dates? The pots are predominantly blue, yellow and orange, with other colours. The vase measures about 10" in height and just over 5" diameter at the rim. The bowl is 10.5" in diameter. I have photographed both.

The first two are the vase.

And these two are the bowl. Sorry I have just previewed this post and the pics have come out very big. I use this method of uploading quite a bit, and don't know what I have done wrong.

welcome to the forum,
Both are the Matisse design by Anita Harris which was introduced in 2000.
I don't recognise the paintress mark on the vase but the one on the bowl looks like Dawn Polden who joined Poole pottery in 1999

Yes, they were used as invitations to the launch of the Hayward & Atterbury book. Lindsey Stevens painted them.

A great find Clap

Pretty much, it's just that inexperienced adults produce results like kids. I know, I have several similar!

The Collectors Club run annual Gala Days and there is usually a hands-on activity. This years Gala Day was actually today when we did fridge magnets in the Delphis style supervised by Carol Cutler and Janet Laird!

I didn't go in 2004 but this looks like a plate with a design prepared by a paintress that has then been coloured in by a club member (Michelle Catlow). You write your name and / or a number on the back so they know who to send the fired item to.

I love the shape and decoration of this very modern, made in Portugal, 'Poole Pottery', obviously it pays homage to the great Guy Sydenham but I know he would have strongly disapproved,
The vase stands at a very impressive 18 inches and is quite a focal point in your average sized room

Modern AW Helmet lamp. I can't afford a GS one. I've finally got it wired at the weekend. Got my brother to picked it up for my from Wareham auction as he lives in down the road.

Date? Thanks.

For those of you who are/were members of the Poole Pottery Collectors Club and other keen Poole Pottery collectors - you will be sad to hear that Roger Hartley the foremost expert on Poole Pottery animals and author of the book Poole Pottery Animals has passed away. RIP Roger.

Poole Pottery 1980 to present day - Page 5 Empty 1950s Poole ?

Post by vanmann September 21st 2014, 3:10 pm

The mark on this 14 cms tall vase appears to suggest early 1950s, would this be right? Any ideas please on style, it appears to be slightly irridescant greeny blue. I can't recall seeing anything similar in this single colour before, is it uncommon or am I just not noticing it?
All thoughts appreciated John
