No reply at all to my second one either so I guess not sadly.
A friend (with no experience of pottery and not even that interested :) ) thought it may be Russian just as an instinctive thing, so I may have a look in that area.

I would stick to info that has credible credentials if I were you m,instinct tends not to be enough when researching specialist subjects

yes you are right Dan, I was just musing and it seemed a possible avenue to perhaps look at. I'm sure I will find out one day who made it. But I have searched a huge list of potters and their images whilst searching for this and the Oriental style pots on my other post and nothing, so I think it may be a long wait

if it were mine (a nice thought) I would concentrate on Italian pottery producers

the similarity with Rigon pottery may be a clue, potters in his area of Italy ,especially those who have worked with him may be a good place to start

Right, many thanks Dan, good advice.
I shall come back to you at some point if I find anything out. Or rather, thinking positively, when. Thanks again, I really appreciate the help and information/advice I have been given on here.

Re: large jug/vase very stylised, sandy texture glazed decor to front only
Just an update here. I contacted Walter on the Italian Pottery forum and he feels it isn't Italian. He said it was fine to post his comments here. I have quoted them so as not to misrepresent -
'I love this piece but it most likely was not made in Italy. The markings on the base are not consistent with that used by Italian potters. If the second letter along the edge is a "W" then you can almost certainly rule out Italy. "W" was one of the letters not used in the Latin alphabet and is rarely seen in Italian writing.'
I think the second letter could well be a W, or a back to front N possibly? So, could my friend be right about Russian, or might that be worth investigating further?
thanks again for your interest.

Re: large jug/vase very stylised, sandy texture glazed decor to front only
will do, but you could be waiting a long time
I recently bought a little dish that I think is Spanish that is completely decorated with this enamel type glaze (I hope that is the right description...probably not), so I started searching for possible Spanish potters but there seems to be a dearth...or perhaps I'm just not searching in the right place/with the right words.
I'll post a pic of the dish separately.

So I think this technique of enamelling is called Cuerda Seca. This link provides a better explanation and also some links to artists on the left side. If you click on the artists some pottery work of theirs comes up and it is pretty beautiful.

It looks dissimilar to the close up on the website

Re: large jug/vase very stylised, sandy texture glazed decor to front only
this is another set of their work
*Link removed, MOD*
I'm with you in that it may not be identical and the same maker, however the technique on my jug is cuerda seca I am pretty sure, and the idea of the very stylised work is similar. So, possibly a Spanish maker for mine is what I am thinking.

flying free wrote:My apologies Pip and thanks for taking them off, I wasn't aware and just got carried away by finding something . Dan did you mean the vases I linked to were the same technique as the Granada dish or did you mean my vase is the same technique as the Granda dish.
I can see there are differences but I thought my jug was also this technique. Are you saying it isn't the same? Oh dear, I thought victory was close
I think both items may have been made using dry cord technique m but have you read that the sandy items in your link were made in that way?

Re: large jug/vase very stylised, sandy texture glazed decor to front only
possibly way off beam here, but I've been searching for this periodically and something that struck me was the similarity with Czech amphora vases. Is it possible this maybe a Czech vase. It seems to be in a similar technique to the Amphora pieces I have seen but perhaps not the same earthenware used? Any thought? right track maybe?
thanks
