Re: Cottees Poole Pottery Auction
sold for £750 despite the restoration and not one of Guy's best.
The auction was very badly run by people who know little about Poole pottery imo
A vase that was designed and decorated by Tony Morris sold for £220 because it was advertised as an Alan White vase

Re: Cottees Poole Pottery Auction
No, if you go to the Cottees website or Easylive there are 320 lots although not all the photos are available yet. The sale includes a lot of Anita Harris Studio pieces. I assume the rest of the catalogue will be on the-saleroom when all the pics are available. Not sure how much is of great interest though that depends on what you like/collect. However, not often likely to see a no. of rare G.S. pieces at one time

Re: Cottees Poole Pottery Auction
There have been some real bargains this morning, a lot of happy buyers at Cottees and some livid sellers

Re: Cottees Poole Pottery Auction
Hi Dantheman, Interesting that you note that there were bargains to be had in the Cottees sale, this seems to be reflected in a number of recent sales of collectors items across the board .Yes i expect that there will be some livid sellers and this is partly the blame of auctioneers encouraging vendors to accept lower reserves ,which is ok in a more buoyant market but at the moment a bit dodgy.

Re: Cottees Poole Pottery Auction
I think your local auction house is a better bet for pottery, I would pick Gaze auction house over most.

Re: Cottees Poole Pottery Auction
Hi, We have been going to Gaze's for around 35 years , when we were in the trade it was on the route of our regular runs around East Anglia, This saleroom doesn't get the volume of high quality items that it had in the past, which were mainly old clearances. Gaze's is a bit of an old fashioned saleroom (not a bad thing) and the odd bargain can be picked up there. There are two or three 'design' sales per year and prices are normally pretty reasonable.

Re: Cottees Poole Pottery Auction
Cottees tend to keep the results private after the auction ends, I checked while it was still live

Re: Cottees Poole Pottery Auction
it's been like that for years, they probably signed up with one of those sites where you pay for the sale results
The first mermaid sold for over a grand lot 14
the repaired elfin type figure sold for around £280 lot 36
and the other perfect mermaid went for £400 to a forum member lot 40

Re: Cottees Poole Pottery Auction
Some of the G.S. prices were lower than might have been expected but bear in mind that his terracotta pieces aren't everyones 'cup of tea'. I much prefer his glazed pieces and would pay much more for a good glazed vase, though I am very happy to won the mermaid at 400 hammer. The imp also had enough damage/firing faults to put off some bidders. Prices were generally quite strong and it seems that what I call 'modern Poole' has gone very trendy as prices were going stupidly high - they'll be on ebay soon. A no. of freeform also sold for far more than expected.
