Gordon Ottewell, Skegness Pottery
Skegness Pottery, the potter's name was Gray and he closed down around 1985.
[There is a Skegness Pottery pig online signed Gordon Ottewell so he may have been the owner. However, a YouTube video by a collector (Skegness Pottery Parts1 & 2) says the name was John Pountney. The pottery opened in Pountney’s Garage but maybe that was the previous owner of the property, not the potter. -Admin]
From the Skegness Magazine, 2008:

From the Skegness Magazine, 2008:
The Skegness Pottery, opened in 1975 at Pountney’s Garage on Burgh Road, Skegness, proved a popular tourist attraction from the onset. It was open to the public daily and during one of its first opening days, about 1,000 people visited it to watch the six throwers and decorators at work and buy their products. These were mainly tableware and anything connected with plants or flowers, but one of the craftsmen turned out Italian-style figures. Among the potters was a former stunt man who was retrained in ceramics when he damaged his back. The picture above shows the man in charge, Mr Gordon Ottewell.

Re: Gordon Ottewell, Skegness Pottery
Well, it's late and still no sign of sleep, so I'll post these instead.
1st up, a Skegness plate with full pottery name stamp:-
...and a goblet with monogram mark:-
...and finally, a bowl with yet another variation of the monogram mark:-
Skegness Pottery , IMHO, is the best thing to come out of Skeggy....apart from the A52.

Treacle glazed vase - Skegness Pottery
This looks to be Devon style pottery with a familiar looking decoration. There are some incised initials on the lower edge which appear in my eyes to read SP. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Re: Gordon Ottewell, Skegness Pottery
Skegness Pottery. I think the mark must be in someone else’s hand from the usual style, but the decoration is typical.

Re: Gordon Ottewell, Skegness Pottery
Skeggy was the nearest seaside when I was a child and so we visited it many times. My only recollection of the Pottery was that my mother visited it on a coach trip with the village WI and brought back a mug.
