My Single Piece of Chance
Have had this a little while. Sadly it is missing its sticker but there really isn't much doubt as to what it is. This is another item that is a rare find here in Toronto. We are really hard up when it comes to decent thrift finds etc these days. If you want really nice stuff you have to go to auctions and be prepared to pay unfortunately. I paid I think $3 for this piece if I'm not mistaken. It's in really nice shape with only a couple of pinhole sized spots where the black color has come off.
Re: Chance / Fiesta (England)
Must be an export opportunity for me there! Coming from the land of Chance, I can guarantee every Charity shop I visit has a minimum of 2 pieces, and boot sales are always full of it.

I don't go looking for them, but I can't resist any I come across in the charity shops. I've also got a celery vase that's just like the bottom part of the lidded pot, but has CELERY etched on the side.

Yep.. I've got one of those as well. Chances glass works was a local company to me and therefore it turns up in abundance eeverywhere. I was wondering is it because it was local or are all Charity shops round the country full of Chance glass?

Re: Chance / Fiesta (England)
I don't know that it's all that common down here, although that may be because it's simply not recognised other than the handkerchiefs, which are snapped up pretty quickly by collectors.

Quite a bit of Spiderware here in Nuneaton shops. The hankerchief vases tend to disappear quickly as punters
tend to think they are worth a fortune.
Lots of commerative plates and ashtrays too. I like to buy boxed if possible. Keep an eye out
for Chance paperweight as they tend to go un noticed and are quite rare.

Re: Chance / Fiesta (England)
Looks English. The sort of thing you'd get with Fiesta ware; ie. that era.
Chance glass?

Chance Glass, Swirl Ruby, well probably as it was a very successful pattern for a long time and copies were made.

Re: Chance / Fiesta (England)
Came across a large fruit/salad bowl last month but had to leave it as I have no room for big items, but couldn't resist this little lidded bowl / butter dish when I spotted it.

Re: Chance / Fiesta (England)
Chance Glass perhaps, if so 1950/60s. Dimensions and base and top shots would be good.

Early 20th century (?) shot glass? - Chance Brothers, Lotus tot glas
This glass is owned by my 96 year old Grandad who said it came from his parents. He thinks it could be 'really old' though I suspect it isn't likely to be pre 20th century. It would be good to have an idea of its likely history because I've not seen anything like it before. It is what I would call a 'shot glass' with a heavy base which has small bubbles in the glass. The main body is engraved with basic flowers and diamond shapes. It has vertical ridges in the top section of the glass. There are small vertical scratches approx 2-4mm inside the lip. The glass is 9cm height, 8.5cm diameter and 0.5cm dent in base which is smooth.

Re: Chance / Fiesta (England)
Thanks for this reply, it's great to have some info to share with my Grandad. Do you happen to have an idea what decade it was most likely made in? Best wishes, Jacqui
