Re: The Poole Pottery Collectors Club Public Forum
My understanding is that this is temporary whilst the website is transferred to new ownership.
Here is a quote from a recent email about changes to the club:
"A meeting was held at the request of Edward Cavanagh after the Gala Day last November. It was attended by most of the members present at the event. Edward stated that the work load was becoming to much for him to handle alone and that members had express concerns on the financial side of the club. The idea was suggested that a committee was formed to to run the club on more formal lines. A time scales was discussed and recently a provisional committee was formed with a hand over date of 1st March 2012.
This committee has now been set up and plans made. The changes will be as follows.
The provisional committee consists of -
Barry Woolford - Treasurer
Sue Smith - Secretary, Membership Sec, Gala Day organiser Magazine (with Gloria)
Ian Feltham - in his words general dogsbody.
Help outside the committee will be given by Gloria Peek a previous Club organiser from the past. Gloria has offered to help with the Magazine and help with web site.
Edward Cavenagh has been offered a Honorary post as President in recognition of his past work with the club. We take this opportunity to thank both Edward and Steve for setting up the club in it's early stages and their work with it since. Without them there would be no club now."

I hope all the info we posted on the public forum will not be taken from public view as it was never meant to be used for profit....

Re: The Poole Pottery Collectors Club Public Forum
Since I posted the above I have heard that the Public Forum may not be resurrected and the Gallery may go as the new committee want to reduce the size, complexity and cost of the hosting and feel the public forum is mainly used by non-members.
Re: The Poole Pottery Collectors Club Public Forum
if the public forum is conveniently removed then the members only forum (the poole pottery collectors club) loses it's main competitor,I suspected they would do this as the free site was II'm told) getting far more hits and was used by guests for reference.
What sort of people delete information donated by Poole pottery collectors to be used at no cost by fellow Poole pottery collectors?

Re: The Poole Pottery Collectors Club Public Forum
hi all,
thank you to gareth for helping me track you down in our new lodgings.
how much was it costing to host the public forum / gallery? I know of other forums that meet their costs by simply asking users for donations.
who has ownership of the info posted on the public forum / gallery? would it be technically feasible to transfer it to a new service provider?

Steve and I transferred all the poole pics from the old host to our last one but it was very time consuming,we copied the pics to our PCs and re posted them
http://www.poolepotterycollectorsclub.co.uk/gallery/index.php
take a look, they may be deleted soon and all the work will have come to nothing

Re: The Poole Pottery Collectors Club Public Forum
I was thinking more along the lines of getting the current service provider to make a back-up tape of the entire site then taking it to a new provider and restoring it onto a new host machine... I'm sure any IT professionals will soon correct me if I'm taking rubbish - anyone?

Re: The Poole Pottery Collectors Club Public Forum
I don't know all the details. I am a member of the club and get emails but I am not on the committee.
I can tell you that the site was in fact 3 separate applications - the members only site, the public forum and the image gallery. In simple terms this would require 3 times more hosting than a single site so I guess you could cut costs by 2/3 in principle.
I am not sure who has ownership. Morally I would agree the contents of the public site should be kept public but I don't know how feasible it is to get hold of the data.
I will pass on your comments to the committee and report back any response I get.

Re: The Poole Pottery Collectors Club Public Forum
I have had a very quick reply from a committee member who is generally supportive of the idea of keeping the info in the public domain at a forum like this. Dan, I will PM you details so you can talk directly rather than through me.
Re: The Poole Pottery Collectors Club Public Forum
It is quite likely that if it is necessary to reduce costs then changing ISPs might be the answer.
I did this a couple of years ago for my main web site and my current hosting costs are around 5% of what they had been.

public Forum Poole Pottery collectors Club
Hi Guys,
I am sorry I had not thought earlier to use this forum to keep people informed of the changes occurring to the site. When the new committee took over the running of the club it was decided due to our inexperience to accept the offer of help in updating the club site. As the public site was seldom used buy members it was decided to simplify the site by getting rid of the public area. So when the whole site was taken down it was not restarted with the rest.
After I was contacted by a member of this site the committee had a rethink and it has been decided to reinstate the public gallery. The forum will however remain closed. This will simplify things and as this site has it's own forum we don't think the other will be missed. The Public Gallery will continue as before.
I will still continue to add pictures myself as I have always done.
The Collectors Club and site is undergoing a process of updating which those of you who are members may have noticed this will continue for some time but the main changes will soon be on line. I hope members will approve.
To those of you who are not members please reconsider joining us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Edward and Steve for setting up and running the club and leaving us this legacy. I hope they too approve of the changes.
Again sorry for the confusion and lack of communication

Re: The Poole Pottery Collectors Club Public Forum
Most of the active members from the Poole Pottery Collectors Club Public Forum have now joined us here so how about building up our Poole sections with the info that was lost when the club's plug was pulled?
Come on Poolies! We know more now than we did when the Poole forum started so get posting the info that we lost
keep free information alive and available

Re: The Poole Pottery Collectors Club Public Forum
Tried to access the site this evening but it doesn't seem to be available anymore ... a pity if that is the case as I used to visit the public image gallery quite frequently ... it would be sad to lose all the images and messages that were posted on there ... hopefully it is only a temporary problem with the site server ...

Re: The Poole Pottery Collectors Club Public Forum
The PPCC paid for site is down as well. I have had an email saying the committee are in touch with the web hosting company to get it resolved.
Hopefully just a temporary glitch.
