IS THIS WEST GERMAN OR ENGLISH?
This is a large floor standing vase that I know nothing about. I collect fat lava/west german ceramics but have no idea if this is German or English. The dark brown glaze on the front is very much like a fat lava glaze. The clay around the base is white with no markings on the base at all. The remainder of the vase has a lava like texture with 2 large holes on either side creating handle like shapes. The dark brown glaze on the inside is again similar to that found on german pieces.
Any help is appreciated.

Re: IS THIS WEST GERMAN OR ENGLISH?
I doubt that it's English too. A photo of the base would help though as no matter how good a written description may be, it may not conjure the right image in the readers mind. Are you a member of the West German Pottery Group on Facebook? If you post it on there someone can usually confirm a maker or offer a few possibles within hours.

Hi everyone, really appreciate your input on this one. First time on the forum so still learning! Here's the base, hope that helps a little.
Yes there is sign of wear, not a huge amount but similar to that you'd find on ceramics from 60's-70's.
Thanks for the facebook tip too, I have just become a member on that so will post it there too.
Thanks again, Rich

This base reminds me very much a vase I posted some time ago:

Ed suggested it could be chinese.
Is your vase heavy?

Re: IS THIS WEST GERMAN OR ENGLISH?
Chinese is a surprize to me, but I'm only really a casual player in WGP.
However, I have seen stuff that i thought might be 1980s German but when I picked it them up they have 'Made in Vietnam' stickers. No weight to them at all.
Yours looks very different to those.
From the top it looks factory made, from the base, studio. From my limited knowledge I'd still consider that this could be German and I wouldn't be surprized if it turned out to be East German.

Re: IS THIS WEST GERMAN OR ENGLISH?
I must admit that my first thought was that the vase is Chinese and made quite recently

Thanks everyone, really interesting! Yes It's quite heavy, never thought for a minute it would be chinese.
Glad to start things off with an odd one, I'll try and keep things simple next time!
