Alan White Carp for Carp Plate - trial glazes
Fish as used for the carp plate by Alan White, trialling glazes.
Shape 49 pin dish - early shape with footrim
Lovely colours on this #49 pin dish, footed rim. I am uncertain of the paintress mark as a couple seem to have used the three line mark.
Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
The three line marks are interesting. I have a theory (unproven) that Geraldine O'Meara (1966) used thinner brushstokes than Shirley Campbell (1966 - 1969). Certainly all the pieces that I have seen with 1969 type glazes have had the thicker mark.
Yours seems to have thin lines so it could well be the former.
Whatever, it's a lovely dish

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
Thanks Gareth, I love the darker earlier colours. In fact any Delphis item with no orange in it gets my vote!

do you know when the taller foot was discontinued Gareth? We might then be able to exclude Shirley

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
You know Dan, I'd never really pinned the date down so your question has caused me to go away and do a bit of research!
From my own records it seems they were only produced until 1966. I have never had one that couldn't have been produced in 1966 and I have a wider footed one that has the Anne Godfrey mark for 1966, so it looks like the changeover came then.
The craft section only started in May 1966 so the narrow foot can't have been used for more than 6 months or so after that. Geraldine O'Meara was there in May I think (assuming she is the one named Patricia O'Meara by Leslie Hayward), Shirley Campbell must have joined later in 1966. Maybe she replaced Geraldine and inherited her mark - after all the mark was only to count how many each painted, not for our benefit!

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
so we can safely say the pin dish was decorated by Geraldine O'Meara
