The Edgar Campden bowl looks like lazy valuing. Its not lustre,just ordinary Aldermaston,and Edgar Campden does not have a great history of large prices. Wooley and Wallis really used to be The Auctioneers for Studio Pottery since Bonhams packed up. But this year? Not much of interest to set the heart a racing,all year long.

What about the 2 poole trad vases?

I have no idea about prices of studio pottery but as with most art it is all about the 'name', be it Martin bros or Lucie Rie/Hans Coper. I thought the estimates on the 2 large Poole vases were 'a bit hopeful' but I was proved wrong. Why did they sell for good prices - large vases, with Poole size can matter, rare pattern and importantly it is a pattern that fully covers the pot so that there is effectively no white showing. These are the rarest patterns that are rarely seen.

I went along -for the middle part of the auction - in the vain hope that I might be able to pick up the Guy Sydenham lampbase at the bottom end of the estimate. It was a nice big piece and the glaze fault wasn't really a problem and in a shape I hadn't seen before so I guess it was worth the £650 hammer.

Estimates for bottom-end Whitefriars are way over, but the furniture seems cheap.

Lovely pictures but not a great catalogue based on the high standards Wooley & Wallis have set in the past. They always get good prices for objects so I rarely buy from them but for me it would not be worth the trip in any case. Simply not enough to be worth it for me.

As I expected the studio pottery went for as much and in some cases higher than I imagined despite some estimates being tempting. Glad that I took the sensible option and didn't bother to go.

However, in a year's time if prices continue to rise I might be regretting not buying at Spring 2016 prices.

Two rather minor Cardew lots,and that's it for me. Time was,when they had a selection of Studio pottery in all these type of sales. Dullsville for me..... Sad

Agree also here, it's not a great sale. Apart from a sundial that should be saved for the nation in my opinion. On the positive side lots of other auctions on this month that should get pulses raised (about older pots anyway).
