studio vase
Don't know how I've got picture uploaded. Paid probably too much for rare shape 20 vase, TV mark, but once I had removed layer of nicotine it polished up very nicely.

I haven't seen that shape before... how tall is it? It's a wonderful piece.

It's 8.5". It is in H & A p.118 and also on p.116 there is one in the far right of the right hand middle photo. I don't think I have ever seen another one, probably difficult to produce and not a popular shape.

That's a preserve pot from the Bokhara range, designed by Robert Jefferson in 1964. The paintress mark looks like Sylvia Penney. The pattern code is OGB and the glaze colours were Old Gold, Lemon and Sepia on Snow White.
More or less contemporary with ppcollectables Jefferson vase above, although a whole lot cheaper I imagine. A nice piece, and just shows how versatile Jefferson was.

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part Two
Might it be the mark for Susan Dipple, Atllantis thrower and decorator ?

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part Two
the rim had an imperfection so seconds is conceivable although most Poole seconds were sold without a distinguishing mark

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part Two
Presumably the throwers mark would be impressed when it was thrown, ie. before
any firing/decoration. A second at that stage would surely be discarded.

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part Two
Yeah, DD second mark is normally post firing, angle grinder etc. GS did do pieces in partnership...who?

Her mark is quite distinctive, unless she used another for a time, otherwise an undocumented atlantis thrower?
Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part Two
the listing ends today, I'm half tempted to buy the vase as a curiosity

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part Two
Perusing a well known website this morning and alighted upon a 10" dish with a very non-Poole pattern. The second photo of the reverse had a backstamp that would seem to be totally undocumented. I know we are not allowed to mention the *ake word even if for education purposes but p.m. me if you want to make up your own minds.

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part Two
i have seen the said plate and i'm a bit confused by it. the front and the stamp both look wrong but the shape of the plate looks very Ionion . might just have a small dabble on it just to be curious if it stays cheap at the end of the auction

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part Two
That sounds like it. The back is very like a shape 6 plaque as used for calender plates, aegean etc. but it the wrong size, there was also a smaller shape 7 plaque but not sure if this an exact match. Other manufacturers also used dishes with a similar back e.g. Denby. The backstamp is completely new to me, and it is not recorded on the home page of www.pooleimages. Dishes of that era almost always had an impressed Poole England mark. I personally wouldn't 'have a dabble' because I think you will only encourage the seller.

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part Two
Thats it. I thought it looked to be in a Denbyish style. How common is the backstamp.

It's a Langley "Mayflower" second, with a faux Poole stamp F***ing crooks!
Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part Two
I told the seller and he has re-titled the listing as 'Langley plate with fake Poole stamp'
