Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
The Denby 'Trees' pattern (my absolute favourite Denby design) was produced in 1971 and for one year only - this would explain it's scarcity - in 3 years of looking I've only managed to track down two side plates :-(
Some more info below:
* 'Into the trees Denby Pottery have produced a new ten-piece range of stoneware called Trees. Two sizes of plate (6in and 8in) together with a cereal or soup bowl form the basis of the set, which also includes a milk jug, tea pot and coffee pot, mug and saucer, and a sugar bowl. The shape was designed by Gill Pemberton and the decoration - black trees set against a spotted sky and candy striped hills - was by Diana Woodcock Beckering.'

More from the Burlington range - these pastel colours were slightly later than the black & white above.

1922 teapots
Hi everyone.
I have developed a fondness (obsession?) for the Denby 1922 Never Drip teapot. To my eye it exemplifies timeless beauty and function perfectly combined. Currently I have about 8 in sizes ranging from 3/4pint to 2 1/2 pint. I'm interested in finding out what sizes these pots came in and what sizes were available through the ranges. I am often confused by the sizes that were/are made. I know that on some Denby actually stamped the size on the pot. I have one stamped 1 1/4 pint and one stamped 3/4 pint. but they both hold more than stamped. So as people write about them I think sometimes they actually pour a full pot into a measuring vessel and report how much it actually holds, and other times they rely on documentation.
So, if anyone knows the different sizes that have been made of this pot design, I would greatly appreciate that info.
Kind Regards,
Mike

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
No probs
Now, is it just me, or does anybody else see the resemblence between Adam's Minaret vase and Bistoboy's Jersey bowl from the Jersey thread?
https://servimg.com/view/13670191/184
It looks to me as if one took inspiration from the other, but the question is, which came first?

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I don't know which came first - the jersey bowl seems more 50/60s in concept- however I can categorically say that minaret was not influenced by it - so I'm afraid your premise is sadly not borne (or bourne) out by history - regards Dave Y

Unusual abstract Denby jug
Picked up this Denby jug with a sgraffito and glazed abstract design to both sides, the base stamp dates from 1945 to the 60's. I can't find anything like it on-line or in any of my books, does anyone know anything about it please.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Thanks, just need to find the designer now, initially when I picked it up I thought of Tibor Reich designs that were made by Denby, but I don't think this is one of those.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
It was from the Cloisonne range issued in 1957 - the shape was designed by Albert Colledge and the surface decoration by Glyn Colledge.

Help identify stunning studio pottery coffee pot
This is a really stunning piece of pottery...I think there may be an underglaze mark on the base but very difficult to see. The colour is gorgeous almost aubergine....pity it is cracked but still lovely...
But where is it from??

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
The teapot seems to be the original shape for the range that included Mayflower, Canterbury, Chatsworth and Sherwood and in this colour it would be Canterbury. However, none of the other pieces are the original shapes of those ranges. As they were originally produced from around 1964 it is possible that the shapes of the other items were modified over the years.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Thank you for your responses. Very helpful.
I have now identified the teapot as a Canterbury but I'm still struggling to find what the rest of the set might be....
