Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I think the rest are one of Gill Pemberton's designs from around 1976. I have found one called Russet, which has a cream speckled ground and wide concenrtic rings in chocolate brown. Clearly not the same colour but the coffee pot and cups and saucers of this look the same shape as yours. The free floating spout on the coffee pot is unusual for Denby.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
The knob on the lid is the wrong shape for Imperial Blue and it is from the Cottage Blue range that was introduced in 1926.
It was in production for many years and was very popular in the 1950s and 1960s and was finally discontinued in 1983. Your mark does suggest that your piece could be from the 1930s but it may be later.
I say "piece" because it is not a sugar bowl but a "Petite Marmite" or small lidded soup bowl.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Looks very similar to Denby's "Burlington" range, designed by Albert and Glynn Colledge c.1956.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Just bought today - I think this is Denby, not marked that way just 'Made in England' but has Glyn Colledge signature - lovely jug with beautiful striated decoration with overlay of leafes and foliage - banding to top and handle moulded with foliage - anyone able to confirm?
Thanks Adam

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
and signed pieces like this often didn't have the Denby mark.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I'm sure it is the Denby stamp and the decoration look to me like it may be by Glyn Colledge. (not sure of the latter, as it does not have his usual signature).

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I have this giant jug with the same pattern so I think your dish is by Glynn Colledge.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I suspect that he didn't sign most of the work himself but it is from the Glyn Ware range that Mr. Colledge designed for Denby Pottery in the early 1950s.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I spoke to someone who worked on Glyn Ware, she claimed Glyn signed every piece

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Then I stand corrected but I suppose if you had to sign every piece it would vary over time.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Glyn meets Shoji
The large vase below is from the "Glyndebourne" range that was created by Glyn Colledge between 1948 and 1950. Contemporary reports suggest that during this period the Denby factory was a giant studio pottery, centred around the work of Colledge. The shapes were hand thrown and the horizontally ribbed surface was intentional. The hand painted decoration, although in pastel colours, is most certainly in the Chinese/Japanese style.
In the book, Denby Pottery 1809-1997 by Irene and Gordon Hopwood, it states, "these pieces are amongst the most rare ever created by Glyn Colledge and confirm his status as a true studio potter."
Note: These were not signed just having Bourne Denby Derby in a circle and Made in England underneath the circle.

There is, as always, better information by far on the 20th Century Forum than you'll find elsewhere.
Graham & Ann's site is OK but all you really need is........
