Re: Bitossi (Italy)
Raymor is just a distributor, not the manufacturer.

Re: Bitossi (Italy)
FB Group says it's a rare Bitossi, and they're very jealous. :)
Hopefully Guido will have more info when he sees it.

Hi Naomi, I've taken a full pic of the vase which also shows its truer colouring that may help.

Re: Bitossi (Italy)
That seems to be all the info. Yes it's Bitossi. It's not a common design. Seems to be a marmite design, some love it, some hate it.

Re: Bitossi (Italy)
Guido Bitossi has just confirmed its Bitossi. It's a colour/shape test piece.

Bitossi elephant
Mid-century Bitossi elephant money box. These have been copied and reproduced, and modern version is available, but this is the original early version. With Liberty decor.
Numbered and signed Italy on the base.

Re: Bitossi (Italy)
Most likely to be around 1960s-70s. They tended to be unmarked at the request of the retailers, so just had the Raymor labels on them. If it was later it would be more likely to be stamped/marked.

I've seen it referred to as the 'clover' pattern.

Re: Bitossi (Italy)
To add, Bitossi pots sold in Italy didn't need to be marked. Only those items sold to countries that required the country of origin marked on them needed 'Italy' and the code numbers marked on them.

NaomiM wrote:We don't give valuations. Your best bet it to check out completed sales of the more uncommon Bitossi pieces on ebay to give you an idea of value. Tbh, the ones that are worth insuring are the ones marked by the top designers like Sottsass, and this isn't a Sottsass.
Actually some of the earliest (and imho best designs by Sottsass) have no designer markings by Sottsass. They only have typical Bitossi markings/ serial number indicators and Raymor import label or markings. I own several examples of Sottsass's Rocchetto line that he did for Bitossi in 1956-57 - they are wonderful polychrome striped vessels of differing textures. Keep in mind that besides Rocchetto, there are only a few other unsigned, yet confirmed designs by Sottsass for Bitossi during the 1950's/60's. So the chances of having a old Bitossi piece done by Sottsass is pretty slim, but easy to verify since the handful of confirmed designs are easy to find online.
Here's an example of the Rocchetto line. He also did them in orange, yellow, white, grey, black colorings that are equally as attractive.

Only the later "memphis" style pieces by Sottsass in the 1980's actually have his name on them, and I'm not a Memphis fan so I'm not particularly interested in those designs.
I'll also add that a few collectors have told me that Sottsass never picked up a lump of clay in his life, he merely did drawings/ designs and had the lines produced by professional ceramic artists. (I can't verify that 100% but the fact that Sottsass was a architect / industrial designer by training wouldn't have left much time to learn the ceramic arts.)

I wouldn't as it's not something that I know anything about but, as you see, there is always a chance that another member is able to be extremely helpful!

Re: Bitossi (Italy)
Apparently it is Bitossi. They did fish in the same colours.

Re: Bitossi (Italy)
These two hens caused me a serious amount of stress a few years back when the sellers account was hacked and I ended up paying some thief in Nigeria. Worst than that the system still showed that the PAYPAL transaction had not completed. I was stuck in the system going round and round for days.
Anyway I was looking for the rooster / cockerel to go with them.
Somewhere else is saying;
Bitossi Orange 'Siviglia Colorato' ( Seville Coloured ) Range Rooster Design by Aldo Londi 1964, 1969.
Decorated with impressed and sgraffitto stylised flowers and glossy orange glaze.
