Re: Farnham Pottery (Surrey)
This little fellow appeared today out of the early morning mist. His mournful countenance belies the glint in his eye when the light catches ( the small pool of glaze refracts/flects blues and reds, giving him a soul almost). I bought him thinking he was a Brannam piece but was delighted to find that he was by a pottery I had never come across and worth more to hoot, sorry, boot. I am sorry to say that some Susie Cooper is going to be looking for a new home while me and the owl get to know a bit more of each others foibles.

Re: Farnham Pottery (Surrey)
Although this piece has a bit of damage ( crack has been stapled ) it is a rarity among farnham bowls , I have only saw pics in the farnham museum and that bowl had two faces , this one has three and measures 6" High & 14" Diameter , I would love to find another one .

Re: Farnham Pottery (Surrey)
Never seen the stuff with the ivy leaves. So like the Cadborough, Sussex rustic ware.
The popular Denby Owl jugs were done in 2 sizes, one only slightly bigger than
the other, in the "Electric blue" glaze during the 20s/30s, but in stoneware, and almost
always well marked.

Re: Farnham Pottery (Surrey)
there are similarities between the two , same period I suppose , as regards the denby owls Iv'e had a few of them , they are better made than the farnham owls , but farnham are my favourites as the have bags more character about them imo , but all are good .

Re: Farnham Pottery (Surrey)
One of the most endearing things about these little pieces is when, early in the morning at the boot sale, you come across an item in a crumpled sheet of newspaper at the bottom of a box which nobody else has touched yet. You unwrap just a corner and there is this little owly face looking up at you, almost grateful that someone has come to rescue and to cuddle it, and they are cuddly and I swear all three of these looked grateful.

Re: Farnham Pottery (Surrey)
I put these two down side-by-side to photograph them and as soon as I looked at them I felt guilty about ..... something, I don't know what, but the two of them looking into my soul stripped it bare, so whoever it was and whatever I did, I'M SORRY.

Ed will love it, as I do, but not 20thC, Present youself to SP for admonishment!
Re: Farnham Pottery (Surrey)
You misjudge me DD. Anything made at the pottery in Wrecclesham is fine by me whenever it was made.
