I cannot, 'til the heat death of the universe, imagine myself trusting anyone, ON THE PLANET, to pour gravy into the gravy jug, let alone eat dinner from one of the plates of this set. There would have to be foam rubber knives and forks for my blood pressure not to bring the repast to a messy and premature end.

Re: Midwinter Pottery
I could fit a small bit of cake on here with a biscuit and a canape and perhaps one chip just to tick all the "correct" food groups.
( No room for salad, though)

Re: Midwinter Pottery
It actually has "243 TV" impressed into the bottom of the plate/saucer so who am I to argue about usage?

A lovely Midwinter Nature Study Dinner service designed by a young Sir Terence Conran in 1955, and to make it even rarer the almost mythical metal Tureen stands an extremely rare optional extra for this pattern." />

Re: Midwinter Pottery
Well I always think you can not have enough of a good thing , but I think collecting has turned back into obsession for me, I think I have about 250 pieces plus of Nature Study , time to trim down.
But at the moment it is a buyers rather than sellers market and still seems to be falling, and I just cant let these iconic 50's dinner tea and coffee sets go by with out buying them , hopefully the markets will turn again and be back to where they were a few years ago which will be about 4 times the prices as they are today.

Re: Midwinter Pottery
The Portobello shape of which range your teapot is part of doesn't appear to have been very successful, as it isn't commonly seen. Brought out in 1967 and continued into the early 1970s.

Midwinter 12" square plate - Whispering Grass pattern
Hi to all you knowledgeable people out there, I'm hoping someone can help with some information.
I have recently acquired a single 12 inch square plate in the wonderful Whispering Grass pattern.
Could someone tell me: was this size plate produced for any other Midwinter pattern?
Thanks

Re: Midwinter Pottery
There were larger plates/platters in other patterns.
I think they called them "chop" plates.

Re: Midwinter Pottery
Thanks for the info. I'd seen plenty of the usual oval/oblong platters in several different sizes, but not come across the large square plates before.

Re: Midwinter Pottery
Cheers :) It's at the local charity shop but didn't look interesting enough to warrant the price tag

Re: Midwinter Pottery
It wasn't a big selling pattern at the height of Midwinter's popularity because, although hand-painted, the colours are rather dull.
