Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
Carol Cutler, Janet Laird and Diana Davis have come to the past 3 Gala days and Janet Poaros came last year. Susan Russell has now joined so will hopefully also be there this November.
Thanks for your tips I will work on it.

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
Many thanks for posting the pics. Those 81s are really fab!
The mark on the 49 looks like Shirley Campbell's to me (1966-69)
And the 81 may have been painted by Betty Bantten (1966-1967)
My fave 81 is the one on the left below, but I would love to have them all...

It's hard to know if it's Betty's or Patricia Churchouse's as they seem to have used the same mark.... but I think 81s weren't made when Patricia was there between 1962-65.
I believe shape 81 was first introduced in 1966.
Here's one of my 81s with the same mark yet with a blue Poole transfer - dating it to May-December 66.
Whose mark do you think it is?

Here's another 81 with a blue Poole transfer - and no shape number.
It was painted by Margaret Anderson, who is said to have been at Poole between 1966-1967

Delphis was shipped to Australia, South Africa and Canada, and - I've read - also to Japan.
Does anyone know if this is true, and when exports there started?

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
I saw a Delphis sales list advertising the 41 dishes as sold in pairs, but guess it was possible to buy a single. It's not that often you see a pair for sale.
The 1972 Delphis price list has a pair at 75p, which equals about £8.36 in today's money.
Does anyone know how much a Studio 5" dish or 8" plate would have cost in 1964?
I've read some Studio items sold for what a Poole paintress would earn in a week.
Here's one of Angela Wyburgh's 41s from the 1960s... well worth 30-odd pence, or around four quid nowadays.

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
I have a 1973 price list. The pair of 41's had gone up to 88p already - rampant inflation in the '70's! The pair came in an oblong box same as a 361 dish.
A 5" was 50p and an 8" £1.34. Most expensive items were the 16" charger and 16" stick stand both at £7.15. Interestingly Aegean was a little more expensive at £8.50 for the charger.

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
Hayward & Atterbury has the 1968 price list. 5" was 7/6 (37.5p), 8" 18/- (90p) and 16" charger 108/6 (£5.43)

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
I have a 1968 price list as well as the same 1973 price list Gareth has.
There is no mention of Shape 41 plates on the 1968 price list so I presume they weren't around at the time but the 5" dishes had a retail price of 7/6 (who still remembers that notation)! The converted price in "new money" is 38p. The 2006 indexed price is £4.49 with respect to the 1968 price. Unfortunately I haven't been able to purchase any 49er's for the orginal 1968 price nor for that matter the indexed 2006 price.

I think the 41 dish was introduced in 1969, while the bigger one - number 81 - came in in 1966.
When I see dates like these given, I wonder when during the 12 months things happened. Of course, not everythings begins in January and ends in December.
Anyway... How much do you think the paintesses earned a week in the 1960s?

These three 361 dishes are not signed. Who do you think painted them?...
