Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
I have two items painted by Jean Millership and wonder if anyone has a shape 49 dish or 3 plate etc with the same colours/design....
Or do you have any 'matching' Delphis items that were clearly painted around the same time?

That top one is very much like my two... I like it!
And the 8" plate... I have one a bit like yours. The brush strokes seem more controlled. Do you think it's earlier?

Here's a seven-sided plate that has similar colours (plum/turquoise) but with some purple glaze loosely applied on top.
It has Pamela Bevens' early mark.

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
I've seen a list of Delphis shapes with production dates given but doubt its accuracy.
For example, it states shape 49 was made from 1969 to 1980 - when 49s were evidently made much earlier than that.
Does anyone know when the hand-thrown planter shapes 78, 79 & 80 were made? The list I've seen says between 1966-1968.
Also, shape 653 planter. The list states 1969-1970.

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
probably predates the numbering system ,from the decor I would say very late 1950's

I did wonder if it was early/pre-Delphis, but also if it could be Aegean.dantheman wrote:probably predates the numbering system ,from the decor I would say very late 1950's

no the blue mark shows it's too early for Aegean

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
The shape is 1950's (653 is 6" tall, 652 is 4 1/2" not sure which this actually is?). Designed by Alfred Read & Guy Sydenham 1953 - 1957 according to H&A.
This dates to 1966 /7 though because the magnolia base glaze was only used until Jan 1967 but that backstamp was used from May 1966.
I'm not sure what you'd call it - it is not a Delphis shape but the glazes are similar to late studio pieces so I guess it's part of the evolution. I've only ever seen a handful and they all seem to be the same period so I guess they might have made a batch just before they finalised the Delphis shapes.

Thanks for the details!
What's the date of this planter?...
It's a shape 79 but with no number on the base. It has a similar blue transfer to the pot above.

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
The planter is 1966/7.
From the glazes the 653 is c. 1970, which suggests LG is not Linda Garwood. Maybe Lynn Gregory? Anyway, there must have been a second batch!

It does seem as though the shape was brought back some years after those early, pre-Delphis ones.

Re: Poole Pottery 1960-1980 Part One
I know it's Poole Pottery but could you please shed some light as to the pattern and maybe the signature please !, the dish is approx 15cm square. I know it also looks discoloured to the base but it looks to be the Orange colour coming through probably due to the firing process !. . Thank you. .
