Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Thanks DD for the info.
I didn't realise 'Arabesque' had so many different variations depending on it's stage of development throughout it's almost 20 years production.
I found some great additional info here: http://www.retropottery.net/2010/05/denby-pottery-part-2-arabesque-gill.html
As for the 'decorative' version, I think I was being slightly optimistic in finding a plate...there seems to be a lot less in circulation and all I can find are very small pin dishes. I think I'll display what I have, just need to find some way to bring the worn surface back to a sheen!

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
DENBY VILLAGE.1979. Only 4 of the proposed 6 original buildings were ever put into
production. I think they were released sequentially, so maybe interest ran out.
This thatched cottage is among the most common, the georgian house the rarest.
A couple of years ago, boxes of undecorated ones were found in the warerhouse,
and during a slow period of production, they were decorated and fired. The glaze
colours are slightly different, they had no felt base, as this one does, a later
rectangular mark, and were sold off in the factory shop.

Denby Minaret Dish Blue
Hi,
I have recently bought a Denby Minaret dish in Blue with the initials RW on the bottom. (I only know it's minaret as i trawled hundreds of images on google till I found a match) and know nothing else about it. Any info re age, decorator, value etc would be fab. Got it cos I loved the chunky feel of it and it was cheap but don't know what it's use was as it has notches out of the rim...some form of strainer? spoon rest??
TIA
:)

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Welcome to the Forum.
If it is Minaret then the range was designed by David Yorath and introduced in the early 1970s. However, we do need to see an image of the dish and the mark(s) to confirm.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
The piece you have will actually be a large ash-tray, shape 800.
The Decorators initials RW, are unidentified at the moment.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
The shape was designed by Kenneth Clark in 1956 for the Gourmet range, and later
used for Studio/Shamrock/Ode/Echo into the early 60s.
The glaze is just an oddball/trial.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
My mum asked if I wanted these yesterday, she found them in a box of my Grandmother's things.....er yes! and where's this box!
Denby Burlington I think, about 12cm across. A beautiful range in my opinion.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
This actually a tableware range called "Flair".
You don't see much around, so maybe a short production.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Ha probably Brin.
Flair weas designed in 1947 by Albert, and developed by Glyn.
It was for export only, probably why it's quite rare in the UK.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Just unearthed this large hand thrown stoneware vase which I've owned for years and have always thought it could be a Denby trial. Measures around 9.5" tall and weighs over 2 kilos. Glaze colours are similar to those seen in the 1970s on decorative ranges such as Cascade and Minaret. No maker's mark to the base though the clay looks the right shade of buff to be Denby. Any thoughts?

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Here's another unmarked piece, this time a lamp base, I suspect may be Denby. This looks like it dates to the 50s - Cheviot, Cloisonné era.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Hi Dave, Well the vase is an oddball, never seen the decoration before, and the
shape is strange, with no neck, but the base looks 100% Denby, unmarked trial.
The lamp base is a standard Denby shape, still used recently for tableware range
accessories. Usually unmarked, this one looks 1950s, And is probably a Glyn
Colledge design.

Colourful ceramic tankard - Denby Glyn Colledge
Hi again
I have this tankard that I am looking to identify a maker for , As I said it is a ceramic tankard , very colourful and is factory made with the ''made in England'' mark on the base , It also has a strange signature which I know I have seen before but cannot make out.
Any help would be great.
Regards
