Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
No I have had them before. I have seen them for sale as Tigo ware, which they
could be, as some items were done in stoneware, but not on my Tigo pattern sheets.
May just be an oddball accessory/giftware item.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Oh that's a shame. Cheers Jerry.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
This is a Denby Majolica tobacco jar, c1920s.
Langley Mill also made jars with the same Crown mark, but has never
been positively id'd, but one assumes it must have been for some
government department or other.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I see these are called majolica a lot, but I don't see the white underglaze?

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
With the high spout, I think it's a chocolate pot. People seem to call them anything but a teapot, though.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Well no, it is not "Majolica" in the traditional sense, but that is what Denby decided
to call that particular range of art-pottery.
You can see my examples here:

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Thank you janetpjohn. Even as I wrote "coffee" pot I thought that may be wrong as people didn't drink coffee here that much in that era. Chocolate, yes. It has a strainer in the spout too.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
The shape is earlier, and is technically a "Tankard Coffee Jug".

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Yes, the decoration is lovely - green, blue and white with some tube lining, including in stripes across the handle. Thank you for that interesting information on the shape.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
There are "Coffee pots" and "Cocoa jugs", all from the same period, but the shapes are slightly different.
Very unusual decoration, maybe a special order for someone.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
This is an Alice Teichtner Tyrolean ware bowl, shape AT 11, designed 1937.
The other mark will be a retailer/wholesaler mark, of which there are many, but most are unidentified.
Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I haven't seen anything exactly like this before but, as far as I am concerned, I would be surprised if it wasn't from the Glyn Ware range at Denby that went into production around 1950.
There are people on here that know more about Denby and associated factories than I do and so I would bow to their opinion, if it differs to mine.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Yes Denby, from the Glynware period, but not necessarily part of the "range".
It looks a bit "flowery" for Glyn. They made lampbases in large quantities from
the 1930s onwards, often just one-off oddball designs,
